The Fortnight's Story
The fortnight has two centers of gravity. The first is the Jobs Report on Thursday, July 2 — the first major labor read since Chair Warsh's debut press conference, and the print that frames every lock-vs-float decision through the holiday week.
The second is the date in the middle of the window. Saturday, July 4 is the 250th anniversary of America's founding — and the Treasury auctions that follow it on July 8 and July 9 are the bond market the Founding built, still in motion. Two reopenings, the 10-year at ~4.38% and the 30-year at ~4.87%, will tell us whether the world still wants to fund U.S. credit at the same price it did before the long weekend.

— Three Themes To Watch —

What this calendar is really telling you

i.
Thursday Is the Rate-Mover
The Jobs Report on July 2 is the first major labor read since Warsh's debut, and it sets the tone for every lock-vs-float conversation through the long weekend. A hot print walks back the dovish read the market took from the FOMC; a cool print extends the bond rally into the holiday. There is no second window — the next labor print isn't until August.
ii.
The Bond Market Turns 250 With Us
The U.S. Treasury was established in September 1789, and the auctions that fund the federal government have been running ever since. Wednesday's 10-year reopening and Thursday's 30-year reopening — at current yields of 4.38% and 4.87% — are not anniversary décor. They are the working machinery of the Founding, priced live, the same week the country turns 250.
iii.
The Post-Holiday Demand Test
Markets close Friday afternoon and don't fully reopen until Tuesday. When they do, three Treasury auctions stack into 72 hours — 3Y, 10Y, 30Y. A clean sweep tells you global demand for U.S. duration survived the long weekend; tails at the long end (10s, 30s) push directly into mortgage pricing on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

JOLTS (Job Openings & Labor Turnover)
Openings, hires, and quits — the structural read on labor demand the Fed has cited at almost every press conference.
Why It Matters for Rates
The setup for Thursday's Jobs Report. A continued cooling in openings tells the bond market the labor read on Thursday is more likely to print soft. A pop higher pre-loads the hawkish risk on payrolls morning.

High ImpactBEA
Regional GDP by State
Quarterly state-level GDP — a slow-burn read on where the growth is concentrated and where it is fading.
Why It Matters for Rates
Not a same-day rate-mover, but a planning input. Florida, Texas, and New Jersey lines tell us where purchase demand should be strongest into the second half.

Construction Spending
Total construction outlays — residential, nonresidential, public. First business day of the month, two-month lag.
Why It Matters for Rates
A second-tier print most months. The residential line is what we read — softening here would reinforce the case that builder activity is decelerating into Jobs Day.

The Main EventBLS8:30 AM
Nonfarm payrolls, the unemployment rate, average hourly earnings, and labor-force participation in one 8:30 release. Shifted from Friday to Thursday this month because of the federal holiday on July 3.

Weekly Jobless Claims
Initial claims for the week — shifted to Thursday because of the federal holiday. The faster, weekly companion to the Jobs Report.
Why It Matters for Rates
Lands the same 8:30 morning as payrolls, so it gets read alongside the headline. A spike rallies bonds further; a drop reinforces a hot Jobs print.

International Trade in Goods & Services
The full monthly trade balance from BEA, paired with the goods-only release from Census. Reference month: May.
Why It Matters for Rates
Trade is a structural read on the dollar and on net foreign demand for U.S. assets. A widening deficit, combined with a soft 10Y auction the next day, is the kind of combination that can lift the long end.

3-Year Note Auction
First leg of the post-holiday auction stack. Front end of the curve, tracks Fed-path expectations.
Why It Matters for Rates
The first reopened demand test after the long weekend. Strong demand here is the green light into Wednesday's 10Y reopening. A tail signals foreign buyers stepped back during the holiday window.

Existing-Home Sales
Closed transactions on existing single-family homes, condos, and co-ops. Last print: 4.17M (May 2026).
Why It Matters for Rates
Not a same-day rate-mover, but the headline number agents and clients see. A flat-to-up read into the back half of the year supports the case that purchase demand can absorb the current rate level.
